CastSeal™

Low-Viscosity Polymer Seals Porosity in Cast Iron Parts

CastSeal™ is a high-performance methacrylate formulated for sealing porosity in welds as well as cast iron parts that will contain liquid or gas under pressure. Very low viscosity (15-12 mPa·s at 25° C) provides excellent wetting, and enables CastSeal™ to wick (through capillary action) into pores, welds, and seams and between close-fitting metal surfaces. An anaerobic sealant, it cures in the absence of air (such as when confined in tiny cracks).

Mixing the sealant’s two components creates a translucent blue liquid that can be applied with a brush. Once mixed, CastSeal™ has a pot life of 24-48 hours (longer if refrigerated). Drawing a vacuum improves penetration. As it cures to a pressure-tight seal in about 60 minutes at room temperature, CastSeal™ forms a densely cross-linked thermoset polymer. Heat accelerates curing. Uncured CastSeal™ can be rinsed from parts, tools, and brushes with water — no detergents or

solvents are required.

Once cured, CastSeal™ withstands continuous service temperatures of up to 179° C (355° F) and resists a broad range of chemicals, including oils, glycol, chlorinated and fluorinated solvents, mild caustics, acid solutions, and water. Typical cured hardness is 78 Shore D (ASTM D2240).

Shelf life is 6-12 months. A low-VOC formulation, CastSeal™ has a typical solvent content of less than 0.1%.
