New IMPCO Impregnation Process Enhances the Sealing Rate of Casting Micro-Porosity

Utilizing its Impregnation Technology, IMPCO has developed a new sealing process for permanently sealing micro-porosity in metal castings. Called Micro-Pore™, this process is designed to fill extremely small voids and pores which can cause leakage in ferrous and non-ferrous parts used to hold liquids and gases. This cost-efficient IMPCO process works equally well on parts of all sizes and shapes. Tests have shown substantially improved results over traditional impregnation methods. In addition, it reduces or eliminates the need for expensive leak testing.

IMPCO’s Micro-Pore process has been designed specifically to achieve a high seal rate in difficult to seal parts. Castings used in high pressure automotive fuel components and air conditioning parts where extreme operating conditions require exceptional reliability of the impregnated piece are two examples. Using IMPCO’s RC-80 impregnating resin, reformulated to achieve specific processing results, the Micro-Pore process utilizes dry vacuum, pressure technology to achieve higher seal rates. The processing enhances the penetration and retention of RC-80 in the pores.

Because IMPCO’s Micro-Pore process is so successful, the need for high pressure, internal or double impregnation is reduced. Also, the need for peening and other surface treatments to close porosity is eliminated. Engineered to seal a broad range of metals and other materials, the Micro-Pore process offers uniform and consistent results, and can be run on standard IMPCO equipment with minimal investment.
